Description

VULCAN, ESPIONAGE & DIPLOMACY

A Cold War Night of Secrets, Spies and the V-Bomber Deterrent

Step back into the most dangerous decades of the 20th century, when the world stood on the brink and secrets were worth more than lives.

Join us for a must-see Cold War event featuring the exclusive premiere of the new documentary:

BRIXMIS: The Cold War Buccaneers – The Fire Bar Affair

This never-before-seen film reveals one of the most audacious and little-known espionage operations of the Cold War, carried out under the noses of Soviet forces at the height of East–West tension.

The Premiere Documentary

In April 1966, a Soviet Yak 28  “Fire Bar” aircraft plunged into Lake Havel, crashing in the British Sector of Berlin. What followed was far more than an aircraft recovery.

With the wreckage laying tantalisingly close, Britain saw a rare intelligence opportunity. Tasked with coordinating the recovery was BRIXMIS — the British Commanders’-in-Chief Mission to the Soviet Forces in Germany.

Through deception, daring and meticulous planning, British intelligence conducted one of the boldest espionage missions of the Cold War, extracting secrets from the wreckage while Soviet forces watched closely.

If this story were fiction, it would have been written by Ian Fleming — but this was real, and the stakes were global.

Inside the Cold War – A First-Hand Account

Following the film, the evening continues with an exclusive talk by
Air Commodore Edward Jarron (Ret)

Drawing on his unique career as:

  • A Vulcan nuclear deterrent pilot

  • Assistant Air Attaché in Moscow

Air Commodore Jarron will take the audience inside the Cold War, revealing how air power, intelligence gathering, and diplomacy combined to prevent nuclear conflict and how close the world truly came.

The talk will be followed by a live Question & Answer session.
