Charity
Founded in 2009 by the globally revered Buddhist master Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche, Gomde UK is an international Buddhist retreat and meditation centre set within the 180-acre Lindholme Hall Estate in the heart of Hatfield Moors, South Yorkshire.
Every year, we welcome over 800 visitors who take part in a wide range of activities, from Buddhist teachings, meditation, and retreats to school visits, community events, heritage tours, environmental workshops and more.
Our centre is run almost entirely by volunteers, who contribute over 20,000 hours yearly across diverse fields, from land conservation, gardening, and housekeeping to professional services including administration, media and marketing, and research. Together, this vibrant and diverse volunteer community sustains and enriches every aspect of Gomde’s work.
Our activities are guided by three core pillars:
— Buddhist Study & Meditation: To preserve authentic buddhist wisdom and make access practical tools to help people from all backgrounds discover their mind’s innate potential to live well and benefit others.
— Environmental Stewardship: To work with local ecologists, scientists and volunteers to support the regeneration of the peatlands and alleviate our present day environmental challenges.
— Community Well-Being: To provide a safe, welcoming, and nurturing space where people from all ages, backgrounds and circumstances can learn, grow, and belong.
