Barnsley to Host Health and Care Careers Event for 900 people

On 22 October 2025, the ‘We Care Into The Future’ careers event will welcome students from local secondary schools and colleges to the Barnsley Metrodome.

The event is designed to inspire the next generation to explore the wide range of careers available in the health and care sector.

Over 150 staff and volunteers will be in attendance to deliver the interactive experience.

A highlight of the event is the simulation corridor, where students follow the fictional journey of Jay Perez, a young person who experiences a car accident. The simulation takes attendees step-by-step through the health and care system - from the initial 999 call and emergency services response to hospital treatment and ongoing support in the community. Each stage is brought to life by real health and care professionals, offering a powerful insight into the wide range of roles involved in patient care.

Students can explore the career marketplace, featuring 68 stands showcasing diverse health and social care careers. They’ll have the opportunity to speak directly with professionals working in areas such as nursing, social work, therapy, administration, mental health, and more.

In the afternoon, the event opens to the general public, including parents, carers, career changers, and jobseekers.
Katy Calvin-Thomas, Executive Place Director for Barnsley, NHS South Yorkshire said:

“We’re really looking forward to showcasing to young people and our communities just how many rewarding career opportunities exist within health and social care.

“Events like We Care Into the Future give young people a chance to see how their skills and interests could align with a future career in health and care; that kind of early insight is truly invaluable.

“It’s vital that we continue to inspire the next generation to join us, and this event is a brilliant way to start that journey.”
