Edlington Victoria Academy Opens New Forest School

Pupils at Edlington Victoria Academy will soon be enjoying a new outdoor space for learning, with the education provider having just opened its first ever Forest School. 

Mayor of Edlington Town Council, Cllr Steve Reardon ,joined representatives from Doncaster Chamber and Doncaster Council to engage with academy staff and pupils at the launch of this Forest School.

Following a successful application last year, the academy was awarded £54,000 from LNER to create the space that will offer a unique educational experience that uses the outdoor environment as a classroom.
 
Equipped with a mud kitchen, rope climbs, imagination areas and even a fire pit, the Forest School will make a significant difference to pupils. It will support their physical and mental wellbeing, improve their confidence, communication and social skills, while also increasing their knowledge and understanding of their natural surroundings. 

Emily Clark, Principal of the Academy, said: “This is such a fantastic opportunity for our pupils, who will be able to learn in additional ways, whilst enabling us to continue to support in their development.  We are so grateful to LNER for awarding this funding to ourselves and we feel very lucky and privileged to be able to provide such excellent facilities and outdoor learning. We are fully committed to making the forest school an excellent learning experience for all and would like to thank LNER for the opportunity to do this.”
 
Cllr Steve Reardon stated “It has been an honour to open the Forest School and see the work that has undertaken to create such a wonderful learning space for young people. It’s been a privilege to meet so many pupils and see the enthusiasm and enjoyment they have for the new space. Congratulations to all involved for making this happen."
