Both Ben and Kian are completing their Level 4 Sports Coaching apprenticeships with Active Fusion at Doncaster College, where they are developing the knowledge and practical experience to make a real difference in their schools and communities.
Ben Wynn, Finalist, Higher Apprentice Award
Ben is completing his apprenticeship while working at Auckley Primary School. He has delivered innovative teaching and learning experiences that support pupil engagement and development. Ben has led small group interventions, contributed to inclusive teaching practices, and helped pupils make gains in literacy and numeracy. Leadership and colleagues at the school describe Ben as a dedicated and reflective professional who has made a significant contribution to the school environment. He is preparing to progress to university to further his teaching qualifications, reflecting his commitment to lifelong learning.
Kian Wood, Finalist, Health and Public Service Apprentice Award
Kian is completing his apprenticeship while supporting children with diverse and complex needs in a specialist school. He applies coaching and educational knowledge to tailor sessions that support pupils’ physical, social, and emotional development. His focus on planning, behaviour management, and inclusive practice has helped improve pupils’ engagement and wellbeing. In 2025, Kian was invited as a guest speaker at a South Yorkshire Mayoral Authority event to share his apprenticeship experience and highlight the value of sport and physical education pathways.
